[US Tariff Hike Deals Heavy Blow to German Auto Industry]Since 2025, the aggressive tariff policies implemented by US President Trump after his return to the White House have caused unprecedented shocks to the global automotive industry. Among them, German automakers have borne the brunt of these tariff measures. Recently, the US and EU reached a trade agreement to lower the tariff rate to 15%, alleviating some pressure on German automakers, though it remains higher than the 2.5% level at the end of 2024. Against the backdrop of rising manufacturing costs, declining sales, and the pressure of EV transition in the global auto industry, the new agreement has avoided a full-scale trade war but failed to fully resolve the challenges faced by German automakers.
